This Is Not Unstick #2

...not that anyone cares, I don't think, which I don't mean bitterly or anything 'cause the Unstick series is probably gonna be some rough going and who wants rough going on their internet music writing, like nobody right, what people mainly want is a link to the actual music so they can just judge for themselves, I have seen it opined that this bold new technology obviates the need for critique of any kind, an assertion which further cemented my belief that people are getting stupider not just every day but approximately every five minutes

Chinese Democracy

As everybody knows, we generally don't roll with the wham-bam-linked-you-ma'am style here. It's not without its appeal; it's immediate, and lively, and dynamic. It just generally ain't our thing. But moments like this call for an exception to the rule.

Idolator has a track from the new Guns 'n' Roses album. It is - how can I put this? - fucking great. The melody's great, the groove's great, the unexpected smooth slinky feel is great. It's just great is all. The breakdown/bridge part in the middle, that I could live without, but the rest is solid. Within 24 hours message boards across the internet will be rotten with first-post types anxious to announce that they thought this sucked before all their friends also said it sucked. Such is the unfortunate nature of the medium, I'm afraid. Everybody else, though, please join me for a rousing cheer of "fuck yes, fuck yes, fucking sweet roaring Jesus fuck yes." Axl frames a pop song better than any of the tragic current crop. If he's actually been working up an album's worth of this sort of thing, a very convoluted narrative will shortly reach an impossibly satisfying conclusion. Christ, even the lyrics ("no-one ever told me when I was alone/they just thought I'd know better") are kind of interesting.

LPTJ still ain't buyin' the 3/6 release date though. Fool me for fifteen years, shame on me.
