Walking there on my way to the interview was quite serene: the museum is in the largest public park in the city, on top of a hill between the sports fields and the winter garden. An early-morning walk to there is somewhat different than wandering up to my old job, squashed halfway between the dive bars and the gentrified urban fleshpot.

I sympathize Myke, it's been a little while since I've had to do that, but I can concur that it sure does suck. Take that day off, take it off quickly.
I'm trying to figure out if I can take Friday off.  It probably won't be a problem, I just want to make it work with the projects I'm working on.

I just tallied 'em up and realized that I'm heading into my fourth straight week of work.  I haven't taken a day off since my brother's wedding.

The fact that my mind hasn't melted yet is just a testament to how much I actually like my job (my real job.  If I'd been working 4 weeks straight at the theme park, I'd have put a gun in my mouth).

You, sir, are a better man than I. I'm on work day #9 right now and I'm wanting to strangle people.

And worse, all my 47 jobs I'm doing right now not only have no future as of September, but are putting a serious damper on the permanent job search. I barely have enough time to sleep let alone put together application packets.

i wish i had known when i started that if you sleep with the supervisor you don't have to do anything.  not that i would have, but maybe i would have wiggled a bit more or something, because goddamn this shit is tiring.

I consider both of those things a possibility. Though what he actually does is he eats all my cigarettes.

Are you still at the same job?

Yeah, and this is my third supervisor so far. When this guy gets fired for being a crackhead I think I'm gonna apply for the spot.

Consecutive work day #13. Today I woke up with a mid-size hangover and had to tape a wedding. It was kind of a low-budget production, but I managed to find a video tripod that gave me some better freedom of movement. I think I got most everything on tape, though. Right now I'm back at my apartment, waiting for a client to call so I can meet with him about a digital portfolio I'm creating for him. The money is nice, but I'm so very tired.

I called in sick yesterday. Actually, I IMed in sick yesterday. I wasn't actually sick, though. It turns out I was in Austin, which is nowhere near work. And I had to IM because my phone battery was dead, and my phone charging devices were still in Omaha, but I did have my laptop. I made it in okay this morning, though, although it was on very little sleep.

Sounds like there might be something behind this story that's not directly related to work...

Consecutive work day #15:

Getting sick of work. The payroll department fucked me hard when they decided they weren't going to pay me until Aug. 1st because the session started after the turn-in date for last Friday's paycheck. If I wasn't getting paid for other gigs, I'd probably have to live off of embezzling art supplies. Today was a real Monday. Everyone was lethargic. I had a long session of bullshit with a client last night, so I didn't get much sleep. I've gotten to the point where I'll drink an entire pot of coffee during the day and still feel sluggish. And yet, work keeps coming and I keep doing it. Now I'm waiting for my landlord to call to pick up his father's computer to un-fuck up. Easy $50, I say. That's beer for the month. Down to 205 pounds. It's a scattered existence, but the pace suits my attention span. Could I continue this for the next few months to a year? Probably. I just need to land a gig for the winter. I also have to survive the rest of the week including 13 hour Thursday. Next day off: Saturday.

I can't even fathom working 15 consecutive days.  Though I do work 12-hour shifts, I get sick of work after three days straight.

i now get to play damage control because my ex that i worked with decided to email our entire company a very angry email regarding his firing.  so now i have to explain that i had nothing to do with it and hope that even though in the response (also company-wide) said that i was expendable, that i do not lose my job.

oooo fun.
