I actually hesitated between ordering from FV and SCD back in July, but I ended up going for FV just because shipping was less expensive. Probably a bad decision, in retrospect (I tend to be a bit surprised when labels don't bother to even send a confirmation email after you've purchased something from them, it does seem that hard to do? Anyway, we'll see whether that one shows up at some point - there's still hope)

That's a step in the right direction, at least.

So now I'm sitting here listening to everything The Beatles ever recorded compressed into on ehour. I'm not sure why.

magical mystery tour is missing! it's their best album and one of the best albums ever!

so demi lovato, star of disney's camp rock, professed her love for dimmu borgir

the question is, does that make demi lovato cool or does it make dimmu borgir not cool?

Well, it wasn't an album originally, so maybe that's why--it was originally a double 7 inch, and it only contained side one of what eventually became the LP. Read about it here.

Since ranting about small labels has been all the rage lately, I thought I'd vent my frustration about Family Vineyard - they're supposed to have sent my John Terrill record more than a month ago, I never got an email confirmation from them, asked for one last week (or some sort of reassurance that they have indeed sent out the record), and they're ignoring my email. Not cool at all.

Looks like I have to take back at least half of the bad things I said - after I sent them a second email asking them if they had shipped my CD at all, or if they could just tell me anything please, I got this reply tonight:

Hello Jean-Yves

I apologize for the delay. Your order has been shipped and an extra
free CD was added in the package.

Thanks for ordering "Frowny Frown."

Phew, that's good to hear. Hopefully the free extra CD will be good enough to make up for the wait! But even if it's not, I'm positive that the John Terrill album in itself is going to add some pleasure to your life. I recommend excessive listening to make up for lost time.

I've been listening to mewithoutYou - Brother, Sister daily since last wednesday. I ignored this band in 2004 when I found out they were christian, which I was then incredibly opposed to. Regardless of their level of "Sneaky-Jesus"-ness, this record is great throughout.

Davy, I neeeeeed to get to an Athens record store. My friend was done there for the Pop Fest and found two long out of print Of Montreal Lps for a good price.

I've also never been to Athens, so there's that.

actually, a local label just reissued cherry peel and, i think, the bird who ate the rabbit's flower LPs, so if those were the two, that may be why he got a good price. your friend probably went to wuxtry, which is our most well-known store (it's where peter buck and michael stipe met), and, since low yo yo is gone, the best one. to be brutally honest, there's really just 2 independent stores in athens (one of them being schoolkids, which is part of a chain), with some other places scattered around that carry used LPs.

'tain't what it used to be.  Sad

Yeah, it's only open Fri-Sun.  And they only take cash for purchases under $100.  And they only deal in used.  Dreadlock dude who works there refers to their Athens days as "back when we were a real store."

that's jeremy. i saw him at a party last week and he told me about the tiny flea market in bishop ("cosmic debris," not agora in athens) where he keeps a stash of used records for sale. i visited that spot yesterday and wrote about it in the "buying records" thread.

he told me that on a decent day, they'll bring in $500 or $600 but unfortunately give back about the same amount to folks bringing their used records in for cash or trade.

So a couple years ago, Pollard was playing a solo show in Minneapolis. The day after, this van pulls up in front of one of the few remaining decent record stores and out he jumps and runs inside. After flipping through a few bins, he runs outside and gives the van the thumbs-up and they park and come inside. Not bad when your store gets the Pollard seal of approval.

New Fall Out Boy song.

In which Fall Out Boy evolve musically by great leaps and bounds... into Rihanna.
