Darcy is finally kicking Will out of the apartment!  A lot of the situation really sucks, including the fact that she'll probably have to get the police to drag him out, but it's totally awesome that she finally has managed to do what she needs to.  She told him on Wednesday that he had two weeks.  I'm so relieved that she did this before she ended up in a mental hospital.

not yet! there are four possible cities. All smaller ones! and the average high is in the mid 70s for all of them in the time I'll be there. I'll find out more information about all of that soon. Right now I'm writing thank you e-mails to the professors that recommended me and sending a withdrawal e-mail to my back up program. I'll KEEP those 5,000 dollars, thank you very much.

Things that keep getting better: My school requires study abroad, and you get a 1,200 dollar travel stipend to help out with it. Given that my program is free, I will get a 1,200 dollar tuition reduction instead. Mo. Money.

Awesome: last night.

Last night: Without anything to do (the girlfriend is visiting family for the weekend), I get invited to co-worker's/friend's house to have dinner (curried scallops, Brussels sprouts, spring rolls with cashew-based dipping sauce, delicious beers, etc.) with him and his wife and his sister and her husband and to play-test a new game we're working on, which seems to be going well.  Warm, happy memories persist.

GOOD FUN.

what whale, good to see you posting again, and that sounds swell.
Crissee, good riddance to bad-rubbish roommates, that's a good development.
Beth, you fucking rule and deserve all of that. except the broken toe.

Meanwhile, man: it's 3:30 on a sunny Sunday afternoon with the Velvet Underground playing and a nice plum awaiting eating, I have no plan for the rest of the day, and I feel no particular urgency to develop one. I have nine days off, and no plans for them either; I think I might watch an Elliott Gould movie every day and try to write 3500 words on this thing I've been putting off, and otherwise just relax.

If it doesn't derail into misery or depression, 2010 could pan out as my favorite year of this millennium. If it nosedives tomorrow and remains an endurance test through the bitter end, it's probably already staked its claim to 2nd or 3rd favorite.

Y'know, 2009 was kind of a shithole of a year, but 2010 seems to be working out a lot better for me as well. In fact, the last week has been pretty epic in terms of the little gray clouds hanging over my head parting and finally letting a little sunshine in.

Thanks, a-d-f.  It feels good to be posting again, I think.

2010 has been a really weird year so far.  Like, lots of "here is your life and now here is your life turned upside down and hoho bet you didn't see that coming did you" kinda stuff, and it's been tough for me, because, well, I haven't had that in a while.  And I want it to Stop Right Now.

Anyhow: glad you two are fairing better in 2010, and here's to hoping it continues!

Yeah, 2009 was full of a lot of that kind of crap for me, so I feel your pain on that one. Lots of camping out in the annoyed thread that year.

Hey what whale, good to see you around again.
Beth, AWESOME and mega-congrats Very Happy. If you meet a girl called Marama you should befriend her cos she is awesome. Cos, you know, Russia is that small.

2010 is weird so far, because I have, I think, completely discarded being shy. So I guess that's cool. I want to become more of a hermit lately, but that's not due to shyness but to what feels like the huge number of people I'm interacting with lately.

Speaking of awesome things: GREG, both my mother and our flatmate request more Fonty Joe and the like. If you do more I may actually get my shit together and send you a food package, how's that for a bribery?

For me, 2010 has so far been a lot like 2009. It won't end the same, that much is certain, but it's been slow to break from its predecessor.

Actually, the full monologue was twice that length, and we did film the rest of it; it invoves me whittling.  I should see if they still have the rest of the footage.

Hey so I know I'm not around much these days and honestly I probably won't be around all that much at least for the foreseeable future, but I just wanted to say that I'm incredibly happy with my life right now. There are a few things that could be better, but I am quite certain that will happen with time. It's a pretty amazing feeling.

I hope you guys are well.

jeb! Awesome Very Happy  don't bail on us entirely though bro!

----

There's a shopping cart race in Chicago called Chiditarod, maybe you think it's cool, maybe you think it's stupid, I don't know really, just another silly thing for people to do for fun and I ain't have anything against it.  But no matter what you think of the race, the fact that one team built a grill into their shopping cart and spent the entire race cooking food and handing it out to the other contestants, THAT is motherfucking awesome.

I have a summer job!  I've been offered internships at two different Federal Public Defender's offices.  This is a happy dilemma.  I only sent out three resumes thus far, too.

whoa, free staged reading of an adaptation of James Baldwin's Giovanni's Roommate tonight--which is cool enough but elevated to Awesome Thread status by virtue of taking place in the Latvian Society of Philadelphia, which I am very eager to see. score!

wait, I might have gotten that title wrong; maybe I was thinking of the porn remake. either that, or Latvians really live up to those feisty stereotypes I just invented.

Looks like I'm going to be in Sacramento come summer.  Looks like I'm going to be working misdemeanors.  That means I get to litigate complete cases in front of a federal judge.

I am so incredibly hyped.

On top of that, I'll be close enough to hit up the Bay on weekends so that I can visit my family, post up at Alembic, get hyphy, and basically enjoy life.

Yeah, I have.  Berretta's cool, but Alembic is definitely my SF establishment of choice.

I really need to hit Heaven's Dog though.
