man, I can't even gauge the sarcasm there. but yeah, it's pretty rocking as far as white midwestern former-emo-boys getting their occasional rasta on goes.

and thanks for the tip, Arlo, will circle Delicate Steve and plan accordingly. I haven't yet been sold on tuneyards, but am ready to be swayed.

I will vouch for the interestingness of Delicate Steve, too.

Not trying to be sarcastic, it's just that "survived many an mp3-player purge" makes it sound like you're referring to an album that has been around for a couple years, not one that came out in February.

contextual detail that probably clarifies: I have this aged and crapulent MP3 player that holds, like, 26 songs at any given time, so purges are frequent and vicious. "Triple Spiral" and "Jejune Stars" keep surviving; lyrically, they might not be poetry, but they sound great and serve as ideal running music.

Dammit!  Gillian Welch and Melt-Banana are playing on the same day in October.  I am a huge fan of both, don't know what I'm gonna do.  Also, there are quite a few fine shows in the area through the fall: Deerhoof, Man Man, Jonathan Richman, Xiu Xiu.  Nice.

I thought they were boring maybe two summers ago. But then, I never liked them in any case, so don't judge by me.

Tonight: Mr. Jeff Mangum.

Poino - Capillary Action - Lydia Lunch - Aucan - John Cale - Civil Civic - Pneu - Patti Smith - The Chap - Fernandez/Guy/Lopez - Lauren Newton & Joëlle Léandre - Anika - Polwechsel.

Not too bad!

Only good thing about old money & millionaires is that sometimes you get a guy who's both and feels guilty. So he throws a massive free music festival in Golden Gate Park, 11 years running:

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass - schedule of artists

This year, I can only make Friday and the last few hours of Sunday. Thinking for sure I'll see Simon Joyner & Jolie Holland on Friday, and probably end Sunday with Emmylou Harris.

Nick, Robyn Hitchcock's playing on Saturday and I'm in a bad way about not seeing him.

Anyone see any other name(s) I shouldn't miss?

Is that San Francisco? Because according to his website, he's back there on November 7th, when he's doing "Eye" front to back

I'm going to see Cut Copy and Washed Out this week. Still a little sore about the ticket prices (~$30), but it should be a fun time.

Thanks for this. I'm loyal to Emmylou, but I've seen her wrap up HSB plenty of times. I'll check out Mr. Orcutt this year.

Aw man. I was hoping he'd be doing a full US tour with that show, but he's only in SF and NYC. Too far for me to make.

I was going to see Fucked Up and Wavves tomorrow night but there's a scheduling conflict, to wit: the Redskins play the Cowboys on Monday Night Football tomorrow night. Can't miss that. Plus it'll be cheaper to sit on Brandon's couch and watch that game than it would be to pay for gas to Charlottesville and back, plus a ticket to the show.

I stupidly missed Jolie Holland when she came through here a bit ago.  Still kicking myself over it!
