Got off work around 10:15 and could see the big screen in the bar from my bus stop.  OKC up 15, less than 5 minutes of regulation left.  "Oh well," I thought.  "A blow out."  I had Dallas picked to take it in 5.

Get home, don't even bother to check the end of the game.  Wake up this morning, check the score: Dallas takes it in OT.  Nuts to me.  But my pick is still alive!

I saw KD hit that three to put em up 15 with 5:00 minutes, and we called it game over to start playing video games/watching movies. I saw that they were still down 10 with three to go and didn't check again. Luckily for me, as soon as Arachnophobia was over, the encore presentation of the game had reached 5:34 to go in the 4th! It was good to see Dirk hit some tough shots with Collison playing hard, physical defense, with all the bitching about foul calls going his way. Really though, JET and Dirk have been doing this thing for some time now.

You know what else, though? OKC must have the oldest fanbase in the NBA. So many bald spots in that crowd! Who's gonna buy tickets when they're all dead?! I think that Clay Bennett should sell the franchise within a year or two and reap the rewards of their recently increased value. That city doesn't seem like good market in the long term, somehow.

In his salad days, Shawn Marion was once asked in an interview if he'd rather be an All Star on a losing team, or a role player on a contender. His answer was basically, "H'm, I'd have to think about that one..."

But he does pretty well as a role player on a contender. It's like Dallas' strategy of loading up on available but washed up players worked out in a way they didn't expect. Instead of 'pieces' or whatever, they got some old dudes ready to give up their ego and hold the Dirk ship steady.

Good team, though, however you wanna break it down. I'm looking forward to the Finals.

Heat/Bulls game just got real.

4 point plays?  3 pointer from the corner to tie the game with a little over a minute to go?  Yeah, they went there.

I was hoping that Chicago could at least buy the old Mavs a little rest... geez.

I dunno if the Mavs' zone can slow down the Heat enough to keep it competitive, but this should be an interesting Finals.

Flawless offensive performance from the Heat down the stretch.  Some questionable calls in favor of the Heat.  A really bad possession by the Bulls to end it.  Bummer, Chicago.

Well, Dallas vs. Heat should be pretty exciting.  Gotta rep Dallas.

Frankly, I pick Dallas over the Heat.  I think their bench has been on point and I don't think the Heat can counter.

I'm picking Dallas too, I just have this nagging concern that the Heat's big three will overburden their defense past a point where Dirk can carry em. That said, I'd still take the Mavs' experience-heavy version of the age/talent balance when you look at the Heat's PGs and bench. I do not think JJ Barea will be able to take over stretches of the game like he did against the Thunder, though.

What's interesting is that each team won its conference finals by dominating the fourth quarter. Which team will be able to continue to do so? I dunno.
I'm just praying the fourth quarters aren't a foul-shooting parade. Wade, LeBron, and Dirk all get their share of friendly whistles.
I'm also glad that Carlos Boozer and his Monica Seles-like scream after each shot are done.

Same thing, since he thinks he's fouled every time.

It would indeed sound like a tennis match if he took on Brandon Roy one-on-one, I bet.

My favorite is Boozer's "AND ONE!" for every shooting foul, regardless of whether the shot goes in.

I believe there was a parade of tweets on this very subject just a few weeks back, penned by one Mr. Captain.

Wait, Dallas won? I left the bar when Miami got the lead to 13. The play-by-play makes it sound like an excellent comeback. I need an update on this one!
The series is officially up for grabs.

It was a great comeback... The Heat made two or three plays in the middle of it that should have broken the Mavs' confidence, but J Kidd and Dirk stayed cool and played the game.

I wish I would have seen this...I checked the score when I got home and thought it over and done.   I went to bed depressed, sure that the Heat would steamroll the Mavs in 4 games.  Wrong! I just hope they can keep it up.  Did the Heat slip on their defense or did the Mavs just force it?

In the last two minutes or so, the Mavs had a three-on-one off of a steal, they ran their offense well and Dirk slipped for an open 18-footer, Haslem was screened on Dirk's three and no one switched, Dirk turned the corner on Bosh for a layup and no one helped... It wasn't like majorly blown rotations or anything that would surprise you at the end of a game, but if you're a half step slow, he's probably going to score. They forced the Heat into some pretty bad shots and Dirk found a way to impose his will.

The Mavs were pretty patient, though. They just ran their offense.

Jimmer Fredette & Tyreke Evans & DeMarcus Cousins & Mark Jackson. That team is going to be a train wreck. I know who I am watching on Spurs' off days.
