95% done with the 2010 mix. I'd been frustrated because I was thinking there was no way I could top last year's, and I probably still won't, but I've created something I'm proud of. A lot of left-field bands this time, bands I've never heard of before. But they came through. It's going to be a solid xmas mix. Maybe not as filled with classics and should-be-classics as 2009's, but it will be more unpredictable, maybe more exciting.

Now it's just a matter of nailing down the track order and waiting for just the right moment to unleash it on the world.

I look forward to it! I didn't get around to listening to last years mix until today actually, for some reason I wasn't in the Xmas music mood last year, but this year I totally am, I even just listened to Bright Eyes' A Christmas Album  Shocked (which I actually really enjoy)

And I ordered a cheap used copy of A Charlie Brown Christmas off Amazon as my Xmas music is really really lacking. I'm just filled with the friggin' spirit this year I guess.

There's a fine Christmas tune on that Fucked Up compilation that was released earlier this year--"David Christmas."

A Charlie Brown Christmas is one of the greatest albums, ever. Regardless of holiday affiliation.

I just listened to most of that metal album I bought and hearing Alice Cooper sing about rooty-toot-toots and rummy-tum-tums filled me with the utmost glee

Ok! And fuck the previous modesty. This year's IS better than last year's.

It's done. Tell me what I should do with it. Copy/paste all the song files into a new folder, zip it up, host it on mediafire?

If I rename the song files to begin with a track number, will they stay in the correct sequence?

I don't consider myself a Killers fan, and I don't really understand the lyrics to their xmas song, but god damn it, the thing makes me smile big.

Yes, beginning with the track number will order them correctly. You can also create a playlist file (.m3u or whatever it is) once they are all in the new folder, and include the playlist in the zip. Doing both, renaming the files and then creating the playlist file, is good for extra insurance.

Possibly my favorite thing about this year's mix is that I found a Presidents of the United States of America christmas song.

About a pig.

I think I got it figured out! Let's try a test run.

First things first, here's the tracklisting:

1) Nullsleep - Silent Nite
2) Wild Billy Childish & The Musicians of the British Empire - Santa Claus
3) Belle & Sebastian - Santa Bring My Baby Back to Me
4) Roger Miller - Old Toy Trains
5) ---
6) Los Straitjackets - Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow
7) The dB's - Holiday Spirit
8) The Killers - Don't Shoot Me, Santa
9) Beat Happening - Christmas
10) The Fall - Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
11) The Presidents of the United States of America - Christmas Piglet
12) Stevie Wonder - Someday at Christmas
13) Wormburner - The Bells of St. Ignatius
14) Vince Guaraldi Trio - Skating
15) Smokey Robinson - Christmas Everyday
16) Donny Hathaway - This Christmas
17) Margie Joseph - Christmas Gift
18) Blind Boys of Alabama - Last Month of the Year
19) Fiona Apple - Frosty the Snowman
20) Jack White - Christmas Time Will Soon Be Over
21) James Andrew - Christmas in New Orleans
22) Thad Cockrell - Christmas Time Is Here
23) Irene - Christmas on the Beach
24) Carla Thomas - Gee Whiz, It's Christmas
25) Electric Jungle - Funky Funky Christmas
26) Julian Casablancas - I Wish It Was Christmas Today
27) John Fahey - Good King Wencelas
28) Fountains of Wayne - Valley Winter Song

And here's the link:

Any critique is welcome. The year's first Christmas party ain't 'til Friday, so I have time to tweak.

Also welcome: any commentary at all regarding wtf is going on in that Killers song.

Have you heard the original version, by The Qualities, from Sun Ra - The Singles?  They also do a song called 'Happy New Year To You!'- two of my all-time festive favourite tunes.

No, but I'd love to hear them, if you have links or files!

I made some changes to the 2010 mix before going public with it. The Beat Happening tune, while pretty hilarious to me, is just a little too saucy for uncertain company, so I removed it in favor of Gorky's Zygotic Mynci's "Christmas Eve," which is one of my favorite songs of all time.

And because I realized I could stuff one more tune on there, I added an Elton John outtake, "Ho, Ho, Ho! Who'd Be a Turkey at Christmas?" which just so happens to be the funkiest shit that dude ever released.

Gonna put up the links to new and old at facebook later today. I'll repost here.
