It's like they're just begging you to pirate their games.

They know we can't though. Stupid country.

Wow, fuck this to ∞

I've always thought about NZ as a liberal haven, this is bad news.

Like just continuing to play Dwarf Fortress?
With enough dwarves, I can build a computer inside of Dwarf Fortress which then run the games I would have pirated.

GI, you're the last one here I'd have expected to defend piracy. But I approve! Yarrrrr.

this carnation I got from the dentist last tuesday is still going strong. Not a bit of brown or evidence of wilting at all. All I did was stick it in a half finished water bottle on my desk.

National have passed so many laws under urgency...I didn't even know what urgency was until this government. They've put through laws similar to the patriot act, I think, on surveillance and all. Not just National though, Labour have done some appalling things with reference to security e.g. detaining a man without trial in solitary for 2 years because he was from Algeria.

I should have thought about how bad I would feel about skipping on volunteering this morning when I turned off my alarm. I should have thought about how I wouldn't want to get up at 7am on a saturday when I rescheduled. Should have known that when I rationalized with myself that "oh I'll only be an hour late, it's cool" that I would definitely sleep til noon when my shift was over anyway. Bah.

This paper-writing is going so slowly. I'm taking a nap and then a shower and then seeing if it has written itself in the interim.

I missed the deadline for this fundraising pitch from Grist, the kickass environmental news site, but posting it anyway because the guy front & center is their new executive editor and an old friend from Salon, Scott Rosenberg. He lives about a mile from me with his wife and twin boys and is my main Gandalfs squeeze when they're in town.

Donate if you can, otherwise check them out!

Wait... why would I donate to them? I cannot discern anything about them from their site except that they want my money, really bad.

Like I said, kickass environmental news. Take my word for it, or don't. But maybe click past the fundraising pitch and read some stories before being a prick.

http://www.grist.org/give?refsrc=email3

That is what I saw when I tried to click through to their main page.

*Though I see now that it's because the original page was hosted off-site, and was redirecting me to their on-site donation page.

Although really I'm still a little foggy as to why that's a public charity--it looks like a for-profit magazine in everything but name.

Wow, pollo - you saw through their non-profit smokescreen in, like, 5 minutes of clicking! You didn't need a balance sheet or anything. Smart guy!

Grist is a non-profit because they care more about the planet than profit. Take my word for it, or don't. I've been reading them since 1999.

Maybe just give a fellow LPTJ'er the benefit of the doubt next time, huh? Instead of trying to score prick points.

And if you don't want to surrender your money, don't.

You know what sucks? I'll tell you what sucks. Starship's 1985 shiny shitball of a song "We Built This City" that's what sucks. Gods that song pisses me off. Websites begging for money and pollo being a dick are insignificant in the shadow of the immense suckage of that song.

Word. It still enrages me that that shitball of a song is even remotely tied to "White Rabbit" or "Volunteers".

Yes! I agree with you both so much that I'm changing my name to 'Jim' first thing in the morning.

Tangent - Half Man Half Biscuit have a song called "We Built This Village (On a Trad Arr Tune)", which is excellent and contains the immortal lines, "It's a cricketing farce with a thickening plot / Act 1, Scene 1, Brenda Blethyn gets shot".
