OK. If you don't think the "Mama, titty" story is funny, I can't do anything there. It's a redneck joke with the word "titty" in it. I'm a sucker for such things. I can see why telling stories that perpetuate tired stereotypes and immature attitudes about womens' bodies makes me an asshole.
"Good friend": Not clear what you're going for there, but I brought up "a good friend" because I wanted to know if there was a situation in which you'd express your thoughts/ opinion/ judgment.
"The line" is where I think it could be a problem for the kid (not me). Yeah, that's a judgment, but why is judgment necessarily bad, provided I'm not trying to force my view on others? I added the legislation bit to make it clear that I wasn't trying to force my opinion on others. So I cannot see why making judgments makes me an asshole.

tsks: Do you also have an opinion about what women should be allowed to do with their uteruses?  or is that different?  'cause when I said a few months ago that maybe saying that abortions are sad isn't a high crime against the liberal cause, everyone jumped my shit.  Except pollo I think.  And I'm not trying to open that can of worms again, just making a point.

It's really easy to judge stuff that other people are doing that doesn't affect you in any way.  I'm not saying that you aren't allowed to have an opinion, just that your opinion says more about you than it does about mothers or babies.  I stand by my use of the word "ignorant" in reference to a series of posts and if you want a retraction of that, well, review your last couple of sentences.  I'm sorry I didn't respond directly to any of your posts but I was addressing something Chris said, and then something dumbfish said.

and for the record, I don't think you're wrong.  I believe you when you say it wigs you out.  I believe you when you say that the memory of nursing would mean even more therapy for you.  And I have my own opinions about when a kid should stop nursing, which I attempt to put into practice with my own children.

df: regarding the good friend deal, things are different when you're talking about a close relationship, even a hypothetical one, than when you're making generalizations.  "I don't think [friend's name here] should be doing this" is a much different statement than "I don't think anyone should be doing this" and presumably would come from a knowledge of the particular situation and caring for the people involved rather than the busybody impulse.

I might be remembering it wrong, but as I remember, I stayed out of that whole argument, because honestly, I feel pretty conflicted about that whole issue. In fact, I remember getting in trouble for not having a problem with Hillary Clinton saying that abortions were tragic a couple months before you got in trouble for a very similar thing. So no, man, I don't think they're issues in which the rules are different, and I fully back your right to express the opinion you had on that issue without anyone judging you for it. I certainly don't judge you for it, even if we don't agree completely (and I have a feeling we do agree at least somewhat).

And I don't think I have a right to tell a woman if she can or can't have an abortion, but I definitely do have opinions about times when I think abortions are understandable and times when I have a problem with them. And see, now someone who has had an abortion is gonna read that and get mad at me because I'm indirectly condemning a concrete action they took, and I'll just have to try and calm shit down with someone else. Crap.

If you just meant the posts were ignorant and not that I'M ignorant, then that's cool. I don't think my opinion is ignorant, but it's cool, we don't have to agree about that. And as far as my opinion saying more about me, etc, yeah, that's probably all true.

So I have my six month review at this place tomorrow morning. At first I thought that the six-month review did not exist and they invented it so as to fire me, but my former coworker disabused me of that notion. And: my boss loves me, and everyone seems to love me, partly because I can spell and mostly because I do not spend my workdays bookmarking porn sites on my work computer and hiding paperwork instead of filing it for my future replacement to find A YEAR LATER, and, like, I work.

I am still scared and I don't know why. There has been a lot of turnover here recently, but those people were pretty unhappy to begin with. The non-paperwork parts of this job involve dealing with clients, and our clients are not exactly the most loveable bunch always nor do they smell nice. if I am doing something wrong, like, someone would tell me, and I would fix it. I think it might have to do with the fact that I am used to jobs ending after six months or a year and basically expect the worst out of every potential obstacle.

People have regular reviews at their jobs sometimes.  Often, those reviews will involve much congratulations for doing a good job, maybe a few suggestions on how you could improve in one or two areas, and the announcement of a raise.  I think it sounds like you have a good review coming up, but good luck regardless.

My one year review is coming up any day now. I'm almost a month past my actual one-year anniversary though.

I have a yearly review but it's pretty much just a formality, because pretty much everyone gets a raise every year regardless of performance

They fired a drunk at my work for showing up to work drunk. He worked five nights a week and therefore I've basically had two to three days off in the past month.

But, I just got a raise. Woo!

And, I'm leaving for a month! Wooooo!

i know we're kinda past it now--and i'm kicking myself i didn't click on this tread sooner--but i just wanted to voice my support for jim in the breastfeeding discussion. finn is 2 1/2 now, and is still being breastfed, though it is definitely not his primary source of nourishment anymore. it really only happens at home, generally before and after he goes to bed.

but i'll tell you this: when he was younger, and more demanding, and breastfeeding was the primary source of nourishment and comfort for him, it caused me a lot of unnecessary tension to watch ignorant people react to what by all human rights should be a beautiful, natural, and benefecial activity. (i'm aware the scenarios under discussion were more extreme than that, but nevertheless.)

again, i don't want to kick a dead horse, but like jim said, this is a hot-button issue for me. thanks for voicing your thoughts on the matter, jim.

Possible promotion? Oh, don't mind if I do!

It's really tough to make yourself transcribe when your wrist is sprained and your head hurts.

I usually don't mind the work too much, but, at the moment, it just makes everything hurt more!

On the other hand, though. Paychecks, right? So good. So very good.

I'm looking for another job.  Not one to replace either of the two that I've got (though one's seasonal and won't kick back in until October), but another one to work on top of those.

I just want a quiet like bookstore job that I can do on the weekends, but seeing as how every time I turn around, I hear about someone getting canned, I'm frightened at my prospects.  I NEED another job or I NEED for this one to start paying more.  This all fucking sucks.
