Destroyer - Trouble In Dreams  (Pook's newest purchase)

Matt Elliott - Drinking Songs

It's the awkwardly crossed arms that just make the case.

Not one I have, though I've heard and seen a friend's copy.  I keep meaning to rectify that.  Maybe this is the spur I need.

Also, my friend has shared a bill with him in the past and is trying to get him to play here at some stage, I think.  Apparently the live show is the biz too.

And:

Never heard her.  Noticed the cover in passing somewhere.  I guess her being on NPR should tell me enough, but what does she sound like?

Airy indie country-pop.  AKA the kind of music I'd normally forge an intense knee-jerk reaction against just out of principle, until I actually hear it, like it, and feel like a jerk.

Not remarkable, but pleasant to listen to.

Yeah, she's pretty good, I do like her, but she's nothing to write home about. Starbucks music. Thermo is exactly right, except in my case I'm pretty comfortable listening to airy indie country-pop.

Hm, okay.  Just watched that video on the splash page of her site.  Told me pretty much everything I needed to know.

Starbucks music.

Exactly. That being said, she's fairly decent. From what I've heard on NPR anyway. In the span of three weeks, she was on Morning Edition, Afternoon Edition, Bob Edwards Weekend, Talk of the Nation, and probably Fresh Air though I'm not sure.

QFT

Second time I saw her play was a CD release in-store and she was signing copies after the set.  She--seemingly out of nowhere--asked how to spell "Myke" (who asks that?) and my mild crush turned white hot.  She offered to add horns or a scar to her picture and I declined.  She's gorgeous.

Yeah I've seen her play twice, once with JV, once with the National. Both times she seemed like a hip, hip, hip lady. Man.

"Um, thanks, but I think you've given me the horn already."
