I woke up at 11 and ate a cocktail grapefruit. Since I had to stop by Lush for Christmas shopping yesterday, I picked up a bar of coalface and some masque and now I'm sitting on the couch watching Dexter and having a spa day. Yeah, it's good that school's out.

Last night, the show I played was awesome, and I got paid enough for my playing that I took Lucy and I out to dinner and had a buck left over.  I played the saw and my Guild with Supercrazy K&K Sound Pickup in it (the live debut of the Guild, 'cause I have been borrowing other guitars to play live for years).  I was super happy with the sounds of everything, and with how competently I played.  Plus, lots of my friends who never come out to shows came out to this one, and the band I was playing with learned how to play one of my songs, and it sounded AWESOME with the full band.

So, that was awesome.  I'm still happy about it.  I'm starting to feel very comfortable with the bow I bought last weekend. My singing saw skills have gone up about 100% in the last week, which is not to say they're phenomenal, but I did feel like an actual saw player last night jammin' with the band.

Edit: This is Biggins--you know how that sort of thing happens.

that's so fantastic, Brian! I'm glad to hear it.

I'm happy because I have successfully completed my gifts for the free gift exchange my sisters and I are having. Mix cds with photo-tile covers and nice notes written in sharpie on the back of the case.

Different for each person!

Four separate mixes and I'm awfully proud of each of them. I think they will love it!

Things i got for my birthday:

Ze box sets of Mothership and Plug Me In
Ramones handbag
Moomin bookbag and earrings
The Letters of Jessica Mitford
Sunglasses and ones with flashing frames

It's nice being born. And I had a great party from which I got free wine and numb fingers for two days from falling on me elbow.

I had a great Christmas Eve dinner with some wonderful people.  Lots and lots of fun, and now the night is over, and I'm feelin' pretty good.  Get to hang out with the good people some more tomorrow, which is perfect, as I didn't have anything planned for Christmas until tonight.  Yay!

Also my co-worker got me a bag of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups!  AWESOME!  Best candy ever.

Since you might be interested, I figured I'd mention Lush stores will be having a pretty kickass sale starting the 26th and going until sometime well into Jan. Buy 1 get 2 free on bath stuff and soap, and buy 1 get 1 free on everything else, as long as it was made before December this year. That will definitely be making me happy come Wednesday.

Working from home today is also making me happy, as is getting to see a number of friends who are home visiting for the holidays this week.

Puppy-dog-eyed sincerity Hopefully there will be some left by the time I get back to Lushville....

Why didn't anyone tell me how awesome fine-grain whetstones are, here I've been sharpening my knives for all my life building the edge and finishing it both laboriously with a medium-grain stone, and now I get this kit in the mail and making the sharpest blade of my life takes 10 minutes.

My sisters were in Vogue once, too.

I wonder if they know each other.

Heh, yeah, I want to know what that was supposed to show. And now I have "Whatta Man" in my head for the first time in ages.

OT, spending the afternoon and evening at Lucy's was great and makes me wish all over again that Boston and Chicago were much closer. Someone reconfigure the US please? Thanks!

now wait a minute--"whatta man" was salt n' pepa. you SHOULD have "my lovin (never gonna get it)" in your head.

I know, I know, but that has En Vogue backing in it, and that's where my head went. I do not consciously control these things!

Edit: though now I have My Lovin in my head, so consider the matter rectified.

Did I tell you I interviewed for another job about a month ago? They finally called back. I'm starting on January 7th. It's still retail, but it's hourly, not commission, so it's a little more stable, and the job I have now shows no signs of ever getting any better. I gave my notice, such as it is, today. I'm only working until the end of the month, so I have a week off, which I'm really looking forward to. Relative happiness!

it's been four years since I've gotten close with my very best friends and the fact that I get to be friends with them is stilll a source of near constant amazement for me.

Their break is so short! But we have managed to spend almost every minute of it together. and it is 4:30 and so we are going to sleep now. they will be gone by the time I wake up but back again before I get much of anything done. I am so happy to be around people like this.
