I'm pretty happy cuz I just had a bunch of chicken wings, three beers, and finished a paper on Infinite Jest. Now I'm gonna walk home, smoke a joint, make some German flashcards and pretend to study.

This is the first week of my new work schedule. My old schedule was Thu-Mon. My new schedule is Sat-Wed. This one is way better because Thursdays and Fridays always suck terribly, and it's pretty friggin sweet to not have to be there on those days. Also, we have meetings on Wednesdays for which I'd always have to go in on my day off, but no more of that because Wednesday is no longer my day off to be ruined.

You know how sometimes a completely hackneyed and overplayed song can be kind of poignant and refreshing at the right moment? At this moment it's Marley's "Three Little Birds" and it's playing at my favorite bar and I am having a Scottish Ale (8.5%) that was comped me and I'm reading comments on my peer review sheets and laughing and later I will go play poker and smoke much ganj and this evening will generally be spiffy.

Also adding to the general happiness level is that I just talked to D and she said she's having a damn fantastic time in NYC and is going to see Avenue Q tonight

I just found out that my least favorite class this semester is canceled next month on my birthday!  That means I won't have to wait until 5:20 to get DRUNK

I'm going downtown tonight to see a whiskey swillin' bluegrass band.  I'm gonna get completely toasted.

I got awarded a scholarship by the uni! A piffy little $50 scholarship, automatically awarded to people with certain marks, but it's officially recorded on my academic record and shit. Definitly on the 'pleasant surprise' side of things.

That's sweet man. You should apply to every scholarship in your dept; my Rabbi in the english dept convinced me to last year, and I racked up enough gratis ducats that I barely have to work this year

A girl I love made me a birthday cake.  It was flourless chocolate and said "THUG LIFE" on top.

Hey - happy birthday Antero! And, yes, pics plz.

So... it's 7am and I've been awake for the past 3 hours obsessively researching stuff that probably should not merit such behaviour in the early hours of Saturday morning (music and the recording thereof). And, in my obsessive researching, I've figured out exactly who I'm gonna approach to ask 'em if they can record the band I'm in and, while they might be really busy, they are also local, have worked with friends of friends, and I'm fairly sure that, once my flatmate gets back from the UK next week, I can get this guy's phone number without too much fuss. Also, if that guy is way too busy, then I've already met the other guy I'd want to ask and, in fact, he's on tour with my flatmate right now (even if he might also be way too busy).

Admittedly, I still have to discuss all this with the rest of the band, but I think they'll agree and, if nothing else, at least I have two names as a starting point. I don't doubt that we could get some fine recordings from just using our regular rehearsal space studio, but if the money handed over is gonna be equal, I'd rather ask someone who I know has made some lovely-sounding records and who I also know has worked with some of our favourite bands.

So now I'm all excited about pursuing that, which, in turn, has led me to finally get excited about the fact that, on Thursday, the band finally agreed that we could start booking shows (and, on Friday, our drummer emailed to say that we just needed to think of a band to play with us and her friend will give us a gig in April). My previous reaction was pretty much "eh... wish you guys had figured that out 6 weeks ago" but now I'm getting excited about it, even if, due to people here booking 2-3 months in advance, we aren't likely to get any full band gigs for ages (which is why I wish they'd figured that out 6 weeks ago).

So, yes, happiness. And, apparently, insomnia.

such behaviour in the early hours of Saturday morning

I hate to break it to you, but it's actually Sunday morning! Seriously, this all sounds pretty exciting, good luck!

Making me happy: the fact that it looks like today might involve both a cake and a bike ride in the sun.

I'm home!  I will need to hang out with all of you Milwaukee and Chicago people soon!  Things have been pretty hectic since I got back (also I got stuck in the Detroit airport overnight because the Milwaukee airport was closed due to the INSANE STORM that came through on Wednesday), and my parents still have dial-up, so I'm not going to be online often.  But I'm home!  So happy!

Here is why I really came to this thread, though: The boyfriend officially asked me to marry him on Friday night.  I said yes.  Incredibly, insanely happy right now, with a beautiful ring on my finger to boot.  I told my parents (who have yet to meet him) the news, and they were both really happy for me.  My mom almost cried (not in a bad way).  Yay!  Life is so awesome right now.  Won't be doing the actual deed for a while (maybe about a year?), but that's a good thing.  Yay!  Yay!

Now it's time to go back to bed.  Oh, jetlag.
