I just ordered a Droid Incredible and set up a plan that will have 450 minutes, 500 texts and unlimited data. SO EXCITED. This will be much better than my current setup, where I'm spending less but barely ever using my phone. If I'm going to be spending an astronomical amount on a phone every month, I might as well have one that's more useful than the one I have now.

That was pretty much my thinking and my plan.  I am happy with the choice; I use my Droid all the time.

Well, not for talking, of course.  My month is almost over and I've used 17 minutes that cut into my 450.  Almost all my calls are to other Verizon customers or Off Peak.

davy, sadly you won't be able to get a Droid or similar smart phone without getting a data plan.  And the data plan will add ~$30/month on top of the voice plan.

Davy, the 450 minutes are $39.99, the data plan is $29.99, and the 500 texts are $10, which comes out to about $80/month before taxes. It's a hefty sum, but really only about $30 more than I'm currently paying and I will get so much more use out of it.

8 gig iPhone 3GS' ordered for me and the missus today.  Now we can dick around on our phones through dinner conversations and parties like the rest of the jerks we know.

So:

get a new phone from T-Mobile in two weeks, when I am eligible for an upgrade, or tough it out with this garbage Blackberry for two more months and get an iPhone (that is, when my T-Mobile contract is up)?  As previously mentioned, I was going to go for the Nexus One, but they ain't make that no more, and so I want something on approx. the same level if I'm going to bother "upgrading" at all.  But I have no idea what that is.

I do have it connected to my wifi, and I've been able to talk to people on it, but it already dropped a call on me. WTF Verizon.

My apartment building has some spotty signal issues in the lobby and hallways and such, but I haven't noticed any difference between the signal issues with my old phone and new

Thanks, much appreciated, but still no signal. I guess I'll go talk to them about it today or tomorrow; see if I can do anything to remedy this. I like the phone, but would like it even more if I didn't have to worry about not having a signal in my house.

Couple things on the incredible:
Download dolphinhd for your browser
Download a task killing app to preserve battery life.
Taskiller is good.

I have decided that Task Killers are largly unneccessary. Esp with 2.2 apps are in the background but do nothing, take fewer resources than the apps used to kill them. Plus they restart anyway, taking more resources than if they were already running.

Change the settings on the app, if possible; root and remove/quarantine what you don't want or put them out of yr mind. I may've mentioned System Panel as a good tool to monitor resource use (it's a hog itself but once you've got yr data you can ramp it down/stop it.)

I like a free app called super security. Task killer, uninstaller, virus scanner etc.

The main cool feature though is that if you lose your phone you just text a pin to your number and it will lock it and the lock screen gives a number to call to return it and it sends you Gps location to find it

So, I used my 30-day free window to return the Droid Incredible and tell Verizon goodbye. Went back to AT&T, 'cause I had zero bars on my Verizon phone at my house and my mom's house, and constantly had to be worried about dropped calls.

Now I have to think about getting another new phone, this time from AT&T. Fun.

ive been looking at phones all day and theres nothing. i just want a decent feature phone with a hardware keyboard for messaging and such, but the only good looking ones that at&t has are like $150. like the lg vu plus looks pretty good, but the price is nuts.  i mean why not just get a smartphone at that price. anyone got any recommendations?

The awful, unstable, completely-void-of-useful-apps symbian firmware on my nokia n97 is driving me nuts. do i give in and buy an iphone? the only way i could afford it is on a 24 month plan, which means i'll be stuck with vodafone for two years...

Man that sucks.  I've literally had zero issues making calls.  If you like the functions I would just get an iphone.

Yeah. Glad it's working out for you, the phone was pretty fun. I've basically decided to just get another crappy phone from AT&T, though. It was cool having the Droid Incredible for a couple of weeks, but I found myself obnoxiously attached to it, and I just don't want to go there with a phone right now. Plus I don't want to give AT&T even more money -- even though I have never had a service problem with them, they are still the Big Evil.
