So I just keep listening to the two songs I’ve got, particularly to “Juxtaposed With U,” a soaringly lovely pop song which I included on our mix CD two weeks back. It’s a song I’ve taken to playing rather a lot, and I sing it to myself when I’m out walking around or when I’m sweeping the floor, and I get to the point of making up new lyrics for it, which is how you know when a song’s really gotten to you. And then, one afternoon while I’m singing the chorus’s opening lines (“You’ve got to tolllllllll-erate/all those people that you hate”), something dawns on me. This is a great song, all right, but its great feel and burnished sheen are not something that the Super Furry Animals can really claim as theirs. They’ve got it on loan from Boz Scaggs.
