pretty much where I stand on black metal right now is 1) Northern Heritage is awesome 2) Antaeus of course is great and 3) I hear Absu’s terrific but I haven’t bought the album |
Darkthrone is top-of-the-game black metal, but it was so hard to get behind it — maybe this has something to do with how I’d been listening to electro-dance music all day, but somehow I doubt it |
I checked out Marduk’s World Funeral, too, which I like OK, but it wasn’t working for me tonight |

it’s pretty good, most days I have nothing but praise for it, but coming after the Darkthrone I could hear why so many black metal guys are down on death metal: the production was like an extra skater on the ice: no fair no fair! where is the funk? |
