Which is not to say that it’s without groove. In fact the implicit message of Nothing is that groove, in the heart or elsewhere, is a malleable construct that can be used toward any purpose that the person wielding it might have in mind. Meshuggah grooves like an avalanche does, with sudden, undeniably gorgeous flare-ups of violence and destruction, pure poetry if there weren’t so much damage getting done. It’s this quality -- how groovy it all is, laying waste to everything in its path -- that lends Nothing its remarkable changer life. Every time it comes on, you want to leave it on, because like all good dance music, it seems to take you to a different place every time you hear it.
