As in the greenhouse, so too in the slaughter-troughs, to stretch a metaphor a little further than it would perhaps like to be stretched. Absolute purity's a great starting point — "young" and "practical" are odious stablemates — but a terrible place to raise a family. Olympic may not be thinking all these points through, of course — more likely, they're signing bands they like who shred live & have expressed a willingness to tour their asses off. But if deconstruction has taught us nothing else (do let's borrow a phrase from Homer Simpson here: "and it hasn't"), it's that it doesn't much matter what an author was trying to say. What Olympic's present lineup says, for whatever reasons, is that death metal's best years lie ahead of us.
