But “Left Behind” is completely great, and so such a world will elude us all for at least one week longer, because to further complicate matters I got a new tribute album in the mail yesterday, and it’s a wonderful album on at least three levels and probably on a couple more that I just haven’t gotten around to yet. It’s called A Tribute to the Beast and it’s a collection of Iron Maiden covers by a number of current greater and lesser luminaries. The biggest name on it is Cradle of Filth, who I’ve never liked much though they acquit themselves nicely here; some of the other marquee names present are Children of Bodom, Six Feet Under, Opeth, and Therion. Given that there are sixteen songs, that may seem like a short A-list. But the thing you’ve got to remember is that this is an Iron Maiden tribute, so the names of the people paying tribute are kind of secondary to the more important questions.
