Statistically it’s more probable than not that you never heard “The Call,” which was the first song on Black and Blue, the most recent album by the Backstreet Boys. The probability that you have heard it rises exponentially, however, if you are between the ages of ten and thirteen, and approaches the elusive hundred-percent mark if you are a female between the ages of ten and twelve living in the United States. I was working with children when Black and Blue was released last fall; there were twelve children in the house I worked in, and every last one of them absolutely had to have a copy of the album. Some of them had two.
