Knowing my interest in these records (which stemmed from hearing the incredible “Red Temple Prayer (Two-Headed Dog)” on the radio while driving on the San Bernardino Freeway one day and feeling certain that the world would end soon), Craig dug through his vinyl collection, which is mighty, and made me a tape that was 29 songs long. These songs are rich with the dark, transgressive joy that draws many of us to music obsession in the first place. Some of them you must already know — “Creature With the Atom Brain,” “Red Temple Prayer (Two-Headed Dog),” “Bloody Hammer” — but do you know “The Singing Grandfather”? You may; I know of at least one occasion on which it’s been covered, by the mighty and underappreciated Antiseen, but I don’t know where the version Craig sent me comes from.
