Are they Radiohead? No; I won’t be going song by song, and I’m not arguing that an Eyehategod album qualifies as a major social moment. It’s almost the exact opposite. It’s intensely personal, very loud music that reminds you of the time in your life (those of you who don’t remember such a time are just kidding yourselves) when you were a lot closer to death 1) than you even today would care to admit, even if cornered and 2) than you actually in your heart believe, even though your friends all swear they’d already said their unspoken goodbyes to you in light of just how bad things then looked. These two albums are like monoliths standing in a distant desert, visited only by a few thousand faithful who know how to read the inscriptions. We are going to have a look and see what we can see. It might get a little dark around here. Bring matches and don’t stand near any windows. We should come out of this all right.
