Well, Jesus, I mean — that’s great stuff, right? Just sparse enough in terms of details to make you wonder whether it’s actually about something, which it might yet be, except that its author is a known liar who is on record as liking nothing better than to have gotten somebody to believe him when he’s lying, which only makes you scrutinize the lyrics a little more closely to look for clues — and what you get is “There’s a sweetness in the worst things,” a line of tremendous & effortless beauty, articulated a spare few times in descending melodic figures, hardly calling attention to its pivotal role in a song that doesn’t even come within thirty seconds of breaking the three-minute mark.
