All week long I’ve been mulling over whether to spend a third straight week talking about Eyehategod. They are a profoundly divisive band. People who love them, like me, want to talk about them all the time; people who don’t love them tend to find them very irritating, and maybe a little distasteful. (What could be better, by the way, than a band that inspires such polarized reactions? One has to be doing something right when people go out of their way to say how much they don’t like it.) Being eager to please, we thought maybe we’d take a little tiptoe through this new Section 25 reissue before going on to Confederacy of Ruined Lives, Eyehategod’s 2000 followup to their generally-acknowledged piezo maestro, Dopesick. But then my friend Bailey sent me this. And all of a sudden it seemed pretty crucial that we spend a little more time saying Eyehategod’s name out loud, and encouraging others to loudly do the same.
