The complaint against Eyehategod, as I understand it, is that they’re rather lunkheaded. I think this complaint is invalid, and that Confederacy of Ruined Lives (whose title gives Eyehategod a great-album-title hat trick: the two albums prior to Confederacy, the second being a singles comp, were Dopesick and Southern Discomfort) is another nail in the coffin of that case; but the problem is that Eyehategod would sooner release a 12” of in-studio vamping on the theme from Eddie Murphy’s “Party All the Time” than admit that there’s a real intelligence lurking behind their savages-from-Louisiana schtick.
