So it is over to you. Start record labels and make nice with the vinyl. Release music that no-one else is releasing; settle for nothing less than something that is utterly sui generis. Pay the recording studio bill for a local high school band whether they’re any good or not, an press it up. Get your mom to sing Turandot, and release it. Make the packages glaringly beautiful or unspeakably stark, but make them unlike anything else around. Copy models that are now completely out of date and that nobody else has noticed yet. Put little technical details about the mastering process in little info-boxes in the lower right-hand corner of the sleeve. Give your label a cool one-word name like “Dynophone” or “Radioteknic.”
This is not a request, it’s a command, as the unplayed vinyl is running short around here. I have already worked my way halfway down the stack by the stereo and its end will shortly be in sight. Since the only thing I care about is my new stack of vinyl, there’ s a real need for us to get proactive here, lest I grow depressive and moody. I know you will all do the right thing. As always, I thank you in advance.
