M2

It was horrible. M2 had been so cool. We kept looking at it to see if somebody would notice that it just wasn’t nearly as good as it had been, but they just kept messing with it. They divided the programming into predictable, boring blocks -- hip hop, alternative, rock -- rendering the cross-pollination that had made M2 transgressive and transformative and exciting all but impossible. They seemed to have instituted a rigid playlist where there hadn’t been one before. The weird little videos they’d been playing went away, and the worthless Papa Roach video began playing every hour on the hour. After a few months we just had to admit it. MTV2, née M2, was dead.
