| So like I was saying, I switch the channel over and they’re playing a video by a bunch of guys who look like they bought last month’s copy of Metal Edge, tore out a picture of Type O Negative, took it down to Felipe in the make-up & hair department at Interscope, and said: “Here! Make us look exactly like these guys!” But despite their incredibly boring and predictable appearance (face piercings? check; blue cellophane in black hair? check; tatoos? check; black eyeliner? check -- see, Ma? I’m Original™), they’re actually kind of good. The song’s got a trance-like flow to it, and the singer isn’t overdoing it, and the guitars have gallons of chorus and reverb and post-production processing making ‘em sound all born-on-Mars like. The band’s called “Cold,” and I’ve heard of them only because when we lived in Colo, a friend sent us a “Cold” sticker with the “d” Sharpied over to make it an “O.” And I would have just let it go, and forgotten about the whole thing, except that the next video up was the new one by Depeche Mode. |
