The third record I wanted to mention this week is the new Loren Conners, which isn’t heavy metal at all but deep, meditative guitar work returning quietly but faithfully to the ghost of the blues. Not blues as you’d recognize it right off; just the basic blues relations between notes. It’s such a nice record -- it’s called The Departure of a Dream and is on the Family Vineyard label -- that it’d be a shame not to mention it somewhere. It’s skeletal, ethereal guitar work that’s barely even there, the musical & philosophical opposite of everything we’ve been discussing for the last twelve hundred words or so. Pick it up, sink into its reverbing cobwebs, and forgive us for completely wrecking the rhythm of our black-metal meditation by sticking on a denouement. We thank you for your understanding.
