At about two o’clock,
my thoughts began to darken considerably, and I ran soapy water into
the kitchen sink, because there were dishes to do. I do housework
when I get agitated. I let the dishes soak, and I put on a random
record from the pile of stuff that had arrived in the mailbox while
I was out touring Europe. The record I put on is by a one-man act
called Park, and it’s called Bemusement. The sleeve lists an
Iowa City address. Weird. It’s guy-with-a-guitar-and-a-casio
stuff, which is not usually the sort of thing I listen to, but I
was feeling a little too downtrodden to take it out of the CD player
when I heard the crackling high-treble enthusiasm of the album’s
first song hitting its stride. I just let it play. |
