I try and I try to come up with ways to convince people Rotting Christ is the black metal band to hear, since they’re not really black metal and all, but that argument tends not to fly. All people hear is that they don’t sound particularly hard at all, just kinda weird, and not weird in a whoa-that’s-so-out-there way but in a maybe-these-guys-don’t-quite-get-it way. Which is, as I have been contending for what seems like a very long time, the very best kind of weird there is, but again with the blank stares. Why wouldn’t I just listen to the true Northern black metal all frosty and bleak? Why not run with the strong as they ride on the weak? And so I am reduced to changing the the lyrics from Show Boat by Hammerstein and Kern. It has come to this. Nobody even noticed that Rotting Christ released their most recent album, Genesis, and so it has come to this.
