heard me five or six years ago, any time somebody raised the subject
of instrumental music outside of classical or jazz. I was not having
any of it. As a longtime fan of the Birthday Party I was permanently
convinced that the function of music was to outrage, entertain, punish,
disturb, or elevate the listener. I have never been much for subtle
effects. I like my theater loud and bloody. |
