But for me the failure of dance music
to provide interesting products deals a near-fatal blow. Great
dance cover-art is nearly nonexistent, and while the websites of a
number of dance labels are nicely designed, the goods theyre
hucking are curiously lacking in the bithcin little bells and
whistles that keep us record-collector types tethered tightly to our
ball-and-chain. Its a pity. There are so many subdivisions of
the genre broadly called house music that a naming-hound
like myself would be happy to throw money at the stuff it itd
make even the most cursory gestures toward a semblence of ideological
coherence. As it stands, though, dance music rises and falls on singles,
which are great if youre out dancing but dull as toast if what
you like to do is sit around at home with the music turned up loud. |
