Sometimes when you have a very nice album, you want to know more about
it, so you find out what you can. You poke around in old magazines
or online ’til you’ve got the backstory of the people
who made the record, and you get your own sense of its position within
a greater narrative arc. Only sometimes, though. There are other times
when you just want to let the mystery abide. There is such a thing
as knowing too much, and once you’ve crossed that divide you
can never go back to your ignorance. Knowing when what you know is
just enough is what separates the elite music geeks from the newbies,
who always want to know everything . |
