Sunday morning for me looks like this: I wake up at 6:00, lie in bed
staring at the ceiling until 6:30, and drag myself to work by 7:00
a.m. Once I get there, I have an hour to kill before I have to wake
the sleeping children whose antics will supply me with work to do
for the rest of the day. During this hour, I prepare paperwork, make
coffee, and generally get things in order. My base of operations is
the kitchen, where any noise I make won’t wake the kids and
where there’s enough light to read by. This morning, I had the
CD player in the kitchen with me, and I’d brought four records,
among them this Ash Ra Tempel thing. I’d already listened to
the first track on the album (“Freak ‘n’ Roll”)
at home, and it had been pretty good, albeit rather prog-wanky at
times. There was something good about it, though. It had a slightly
dark mood, and its general lack of interest in dramatic dynamic shifts
(everything that happened within it seemed real gradual) made
me want to hear more. So today I brought the album into work with
me. |
