Now, this is normally where we’d go into great detail about that first song for you, since an album’s first song is often a pretty useful indicator of what lies ahead. Decapitated, though, start out at a brisk canter but don’t really break into full gallop until the album’s third song, “Mother War.” The first number, “Perfect Dehumanisation (The Answer?),” is nice enough, doling out its one brief guitar solo like Scrooge paying the taxman, waiting until right near the song’s end before cracking open an elegant, formal solo whose brevity only heightens its potency. The second song, “Eternity Too Short,” is also pretty good; it finds the drummer doing some quietly fusion-like turns on open cymbals, which gives the song a more organic feel than its logorhythmic guitars would otherwise allow it, but it doesn’t exactly burn the house down.
