Which won’t stop me from trying to at least lay out for you what makes one of these seventeen songs such an utter joy. Singling out one song as representative of Sawgrass Subligette is no fun at all, since the album’s entire point seems to be the stringing together of seventeen songs that all sound entirely different from one another while ensuring that each one of them is still audibly and identifiably the work of the same band; but we gotta do what we gotta do, so I’m going with one of the shorter ones, since if you give James Kavoussi better than three minutes’ worth of a single song he’s going to throw so many different sounds at you that cataloging them all will take you the better part of a week. Our text, which I wish you had on hand so you’d know I wasn’t just making stuff up about an obscure NY band and then trusting you to believe me, is the eighth song, “Vestibule of the Poacher.”
