If you’ve heard High on Fire, then you know that the show was absolutely spectacular: nothing showy about it, just a band who plays something that nobody else is really capable of playing, very intense and very focused and totally overwhelming in all the right ways. If you haven’t heard High on Fire, then you need to buy their album, Surrounded by Thieves, which I wrote about here. What I want to think about this week (and very briefly, too, because I have a cold and can just barely think straight) is this: who speaks for you? Whose public face more closely echoes your own beliefs: that of the Mets management, who are shocked — shocked! – to learn that some of their players are sparkin’ up the phat bluntz, or Matt Pike, who, having made it known that he’d prefer his audience to be nicely toasted before he started, puts on a performance that can only be described as masterful?
