It was when I got to Uncle Wiggly's "Farfetchedness" that
things got complicated. As noted, there's an "indie" preset.
But James Kavoussi is to indie rock what Fela Kuti is to hip-hop,
maybe. Or he is to indie what Ryoji Ikeda is to "classical." (It
should be noted, however, that when I put Ikeda's superb "op."
on the iPod later today, it is going to get called "classical"
and if Ikeda doesn't like it he's going to have to tell me that
himself.) Farfetchedness is
twenty songs long, so I had a while to think about it. Somewhere
within that while, I remembered one of my favorite indie rock songs
of all time, Fly Ashtray's "Dinge Rock Manifesto," written
by the same James Kavoussi who's responsible for Uncle Wiggly.
Five keystrokes later, Farfetchedness could boast of
being the only thing on the playlist with the word "Dinge" proudly
sticking out like a sore thumb under the "category" heading. |
