So I’m zipping around the house
like a really large wasp who can’t fly and We Ragazzi is treble-keening
through the speakers, and I am utterly in love. Who the hell are these
guys? Please tell me they don’t already have five records out
and everybody except me already knows that they’re cool. They’ve
got that 2002 NYC rock sound down pat: all their high energy permanently
threatening terminal velocity, the whole project joyously immersed
in rock affect, their chops smart and loose and sick, sick, sick.
Neatly clipped guitar melodies, tossed-off vocal lines that studiously
avoid getting all emotional but aren’t averse to being expressive.
Me, I go for over-emotive when I can get it, but what do I know? What
the New York rock bands like, anyhow, is good posture, by which
I mean a whole lot more than I’m going to say outright, because
that would involve more outright thought than what I’ve got
right now. |
