after Horse Rotorvator Coil dicked around for awhile, releasing records that were marked in italicised text on the sleeve with the legend this is not the follow-up to Horse Rotorvator or somesuch. then they did follow up on Horse Rotorvator, and the album was called Love’s Secret Domain, and it was really good, but it was also very palpably the case that whatever sector of the out-there spectrum Coil had once ruled with an iron fist, that sector’s moment had passed. Trent Reznor was busy copping part of its schtick and cashing in big-time. time had passed Coil; it happens. more power to Reznor, sez I: we’ve all got to lose our relevance sometime.
