"Best video
I’ve seen in --” I started to say once it was over, and then I
had to stop, because nobody I’ve talked to can name even one video
that ranked better than “decent” since Aphex Twin’s amazing
Come to Daddy hell ride. Video may be a lesser form; it may be the
genre equivalent of a browser plug-in, destined for permanent sidecar status;
but it spits up flashes of total genius from time to time, and Meshuggah’s
“New Millennium Cyanide Christ” is one such flare. Will MTV show
it? Hell no: there’s “reality-based” “lifestyle”
programming to make and WWF tie-ins to broadcast. (Yes, really. It’s
even worse than you thought.) M2 might have shown it once upon a time, but,
as we’ve discussed in detail elsewhere, they
suck now. If you wish they didn’t suck anymore, please take a minute
to do what hundreds of others have already done and sign
our petition. And if you find yourself within four hours’ drive
of a record store come August 21st, get behind the wheel and start driving.
Meshuggah’s Rare Trax is worth the effort.
