Its not
like anybody thought thered be a Scorsese of music video or anything,
bringing class and cool and capability to the form, always looking for new
ways to impress, but its still kind of a drag to notice how far theyve
lowered the bar. Theres just nothing out there worth seeing. The curmudgeons
were right; MTVs offices should be occupied by squatters and its employees
forced to wash dishes and do laundry until their fingers are dry and raw.
The campaign to smuggle music video into the realm of public acceptance
was sordid, arguments in favor of it self-serving and cynical. The question
had been asked and answered, and the matter was settled.
